Description
Cataloged by Cuds on Coins, this is a spiked head die on the 2005-P Jefferson Nickel with the Bison reverse from the Philadelphia Mint. Multiple spiked head dies on a single date and mint indicate that die crack patterns around the Jefferson portrait were not isolated to one die but occurred across at least two separate working dies during production. Each spiked head represents a unique crack, and the differences between the first and second examples may include spike location, angle, length, or secondary crack patterns. The 2005 Bison nickel was part of the Westward Journey Nickel Series, featuring Jamie Franki's American Bison reverse and Joe Fitzgerald's right-facing Jefferson obverse.
