2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-022

Description

Found on the 2005 Bison reverse Jefferson Nickel in satin finish, DDR-022 presents a very strong spread visible as a partial duplication of the lowest left branch of the right tree in the field above the American bison. This satin finish variety can be located in Westward Journey uncirculated sets, where specially prepared coins received the distinctive matte-like surface produced from 2005 to 2010 by burnishing planchets before striking. The 2005 Bison reverse — designed by Jamie Franki — was the second of four Westward Journey nickel designs commemorating the Lewis and Clark expedition bicentennial, depicting a bison in profile that echoed James Earle Fraser's iconic Buffalo Nickel. Die markers under UVC-1580 and DMR-025 include a die gouge dot on Jefferson's obverse nostril in early die state, with three documented stages tracking die wear progression.
