Description

Part of the Westward Journey commemorative program celebrating Lewis and Clark, this 2005-P Bison reverse WDDR-005 is cross-referenced as CDDR-005 and CONECA DDR-013. The obverse die is itself a doubled die listed as WDDO-015, creating a DDO/DDR combination where both sides exhibit hub doubling anomalies. Reverse die markers include a short slanted die scratch to the right of the lower part of the tallest tree. Struck at Philadelphia in 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm diameter, this nickel features Nemeth's Bison reverse. The 2004-2005 series introduced four new reverses, and the fresh hub tooling created for these one-year designs generated a notable population of doubled die varieties as the Mint produced working dies from newly created master hubs rather than the Monticello hub used since 1938.

Die Markers

  • Obverse: The obverse is a doubled die listed as 2005 P OIV 5c WDDO-015.
  • Reverse: Short slanted die scratch to the right of the lower part of the tallest tree.
