Description

Part of the 2005 Westward Journey Nickel Series, DDR-008 appears on the Bison reverse designed by Jamie Franki depicting an American bison in right-facing profile. This doubled die reverse exhibits extra thickness on all central design elements along with light extra thickness on outer rim lettering, cataloged as UVC-1568 and DMR-013 in the VarietyVista system. Die stage documentation records Stage A in Early Die State with two markers: a die gouge dot under the tip of the lowest right branch of the right tree and a light curving die scratch on Jefferson's lower lip on the obverse. Stages B and C remain unconfirmed at Mid and Late Die State respectively. This variety is found on SMS coins and can be located in Mint Sets. The 2005 SMS finish features a satin-like texture produced exclusively for collector sets during 2005 and 2006. The Westward Journey program commemorated the Lewis and Clark bicentennial with two new reverse designs each year.
