This mid-height doubling pattern on column #7 recurs across multiple years of Memorial cent production, reflecting the consistent geometry of the hub-to-die alignment process. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the ghost column should be crisply rendered without the flow lines and softening associated with late-state dies. The 2003 Philadelphia cent mintage of approximately 3.3 billion pieces required hundreds of working dies throughout the year, and each DDR represents a single die that received its doubled impression from a misaligned hub. Column #7 elbow-to-shin doubling captures the area where the column is most visually distinct against the Memorial's interior background, positioned between the arm of the chair and Lincoln's seated knee. Collectors can confirm this variety by locating the secondary vertical line paralleling the right side of the original column #7 under at least 10x magnification.
