2003 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-002

Description

Manifesting as an extra set of knees on the tiny seated figure of Abraham Lincoln visible between the central columns of the Lincoln Memorial, this 2003-P Memorial Cent DDR-002 targets one of the most distinctive diagnostic locations on the reverse. The light northeast spread creates a secondary impression of Lincoln's knees — a feature requiring significant magnification but diagnostically unmistakable once identified. The seated Lincoln figure has been a recurring doubling location on Memorial Cents because even small hub displacements produce noticeable shifts relative to the figure's tiny proportions. Stage A places both sides in early die state, confirming the doubling from initial production. Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-2881 and DMR-005, this Philadelphia Mint copper-plated zinc cent belongs to the Memorial series (1959-2008).
