2002 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007

Description

2002-D WDDR-007 is a doubled die reverse on the 2002-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling shows along the right edge of column 6, left of Lincoln's statue, reaching from Lincoln's hand down to his feet. A doubled knee also appears between the statue's normal legs. Obverse markers: a gouge (dot) in the open field separating the bust's front from the date's first 2; a short gouge at the bust truncation, right of the VDB initials; a light scratch running north from the upper part of the D in GOD, with a similar scratch inside the O of GOD, in its opening; a gouge that runs from the upper part of the first T in TRUST north to the rim; and a series of gouges on and around the front curl of hair. Reverse markers: a gouge on the N of UNITED, on the upper part of its diagonal crossbar, two gouges between the letters IT of UNITED, and a light die crack on the upper part of Memorial column 9. John Shields submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler's comments say this die closely resembles 2002-D WDDR-008, but on this die the doubling between the legs sits lower.
