2002-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005
Error
Description
Both knees of the seated Lincoln figure display strong doubling with a spread to the south on the 2002-D Lincoln Memorial Cent WDDR-005—a directional indicator that helps distinguish this variety from other Memorial Cent DDRs where knee doubling may spread in different directions. The southward spread produces extra knee images below the normal position, creating a visually distinctive effect on this architectural detail. Obverse die markers include parallel die scratches running southwest from the lower back of Lincoln's head and a die gouge below and between the G and O in GOD. The reverse carries three die gouges serving as secondary diagnostics: one between the bottoms of the first T and the A in STATES, another below the left side of the A in STATES, and a third to the left of the upper T in CENT. This concentration of reverse die gouges around STATES and CENT provides multiple confirmation points beyond the primary knee doubling for accurate attribution.
