Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-2985 and DMR-002, this 2002 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent is the first documented doubled die reverse for the date and mint, exhibiting light westward spread that produces an extra column number 7 spanning from the hand to the knee of the seated Lincoln statue. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A with both reverse and obverse at early die state, Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). As DDR-001, this variety serves as the foundational doubled die reverse catalog entry for all 2002-D cents, the benchmark against which subsequent discoveries are numbered and compared.
