1996 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007

Description

1996-D WDDR-007 is a doubled die reverse on the 1996-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong spread to the south gives the statue an extra pair of legs. Extra knees show above the normal ones, and the lower legs are doubled. On the obverse, two small gouges sit over the R in LIBERTY, toward its left side, and a small gouge touches the T in LIBERTY at the left side of its top. Two small gouges lie left of the G in GOD, a gouge is above the 6, and several gouges sit halfway between Lincoln's profile and the rim. On the reverse, a small gouge lies right of the E in UNITED, and a short vertical scratch sits by the rim, between the R and I in AMERICA at their tops. A gouge is right of the G in FG, and another lies between the Memorial's base and the upper right side of the T in CENT. William Slaughter submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
