Description
Doubling shows on the right side of the statue’s legs. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Die gouges can be found to the right of the R and to the right of the T in LIBERTY. A die scratch runs WSW from under the D in the designer’s initials. Obverse Stage B: New obverse die. A small die gouge can be found above the right side of the B in LIBERTY. Two die gouges can be found above the S in TRUST. Reverse Stage A: A short die gouge runs WSW from the left Memorial base. Two short, parallel die gouges can be found near the rim to the left of the left Memorial base. A die gouge can be found above the right cornice. A small die gouge (dot) can be found to the left of the upper 9th Memorial column. A die gouge can be found NNW of the F in FG. Reverse Stage B: The Stage A markers are considerably weaker. Three parallel die scratches run from WNW to ESE between the T and A of STATES. A die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the 12th Memorial column. A die crack runs south from the Memorial ceiling between the first two columns. A die crack runs down the upper left side of the 2nd Memorial column. Numerous die scratches run from west to east through the Memorial and below the Memorial. Die pitting can be found to the right of the lower left leg of the statue.
