Description

While the 1995 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent is best known for the dramatic WDDO-001 that captured national headlines, the date produced additional doubled die obverse varieties that merit attention in their own right. This WDDO-005, cross-referenced as CONECA 3-O-VI, represents a Class VI doubled die obverse — a distinctly different doubling mechanism from the famous Class I rotated hub doubling of WDDO-001. Class VI distorted die doubling produces a spread pattern requiring careful differentiation from other classes. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1995 1c WDDO-005, this variety rewards patient examination under magnification. The Lincoln Memorial Cent series generated an enormous number of documented die varieties owing to massive mintage volumes. The 1995 date holds a special place in variety collecting history, and while WDDO-001 commands significant premiums, the lesser-known varieties from this date offer an affordable entry point into one of numismatics' most storied years for doubled dies.
