1991-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

Completing the currently known set of doubled die reverses for the 1991-D Lincoln Memorial cent, WDDR-006 shares a key diagnostic feature with WDDR-005: a vertical bar to the right of column 6 on the Memorial. However, while WDDR-005 positions this bar level with the statue's shoulder, WDDR-006 places it level with the statue's feet — a subtle but definitive distinction that separates two dies produced under similar hubbing misalignment conditions. The vertical bar diagnostic makes both WDDR-005 and WDDR-006 among the more identifiable doubled dies for the date, since this feature is visible without extreme magnification. Die markers further confirm attribution: a gouge sits left of W in WE on the obverse, with additional gouges below TR in TRUST and below US in TRUST, while die gouges cluster around the T and U in UNITED on the reverse. This concentration of gouges around TRUST and UNITED provides multiple confirmation points for attributors working through the six-variety 1991-D doubled die reverse sequence. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets composed of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper, weighing 2.5 grams and measuring 19mm. A N-S oriented die scratch shows to the right of the upper second T in TRUST.
