Documented in the VarietyVista catalog under reference codes UVC-3334 and DMR-012, the 1989-D DDO-001 presents medium extra thickness on the date digits and the lower front of Lincoln's bust — areas where hub doubling concentrates additional metal, creating visibly heavier design elements compared to a normal strike. The VarietyVista classification system uses UVC (Universal Variety Code) and DMR (Die Marker Reference) numbers to cross-reference varieties across attribution services, and these codes serve as the primary identifiers for this variety within that system. The 1989 Denver Mint cent holds particular significance for variety collectors because 1989 was one of the final years in which mint marks were manually punched into individual working dies — a practice the U.S. Mint discontinued after 1990 when it began incorporating mint marks directly into the master die.
