Description

ADC-10c-1988-01 is an atypical die clash on a 1988-P Roosevelt dime, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The clash is strong and unabraded on both sides. The dies met 5° off the horizontal plane; MDC cannot say which die was offset, but notes the offset was not present when the coin itself was struck. Bob Piazza supplied the coin. On the obverse, part of the olive branch stem sticks out from Roosevelt's forehead, PLU of PLURIBUS and some olive leaves sit in front of and within his nose, another partial leaf shows ahead of his lips, and part of the oak branch left the mark behind his head. On the reverse, marks come from GOD's D, sitting just over the uppermost cluster of olive leaves (two small dots to its right are unidentified anomalies), and from Roosevelt's jawline and throat running to his lips; the bridge of his nose cuts across one of the olives. The mint mark clash sits just under the left leg of AMERICA's A with the lower bust line just under it, the lower part of his ear left a mark between the torch and the oak leaf cluster, and the back of his head left a small mark left of the IC in AMERICA.
