Description

Carrying the primary WDDO-001 designation for the date, the 1984-P doubled die obverse on the Kennedy half dollar shows a strong Class VI spread towards the center on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the upper hair details, and slightly on the date. The CONECA cross-reference as 1-O-II+VI indicates a combined Class II and Class VI doubling mechanism, where both hub distortion and design element separation contributed to the visible displacement. A north-south die scratch in the field to the left of the lower chin and a short die gouge to the left of the top of the 1 in the date provide the primary obverse pickup points. No reverse die markers were noted. The strong spread on this variety, particularly on IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY, makes it one of the more visually accessible Kennedy half dollar doubled die obverses, detectable without extreme magnification on well-preserved specimens.
