Description

DDO-009, which Wexler numbers WDDO-010, is a doubled die obverse on the 1983 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent with a light counterclockwise spread on LIBERTY and the date, turning about a pivot near 12 o'clock. Wexler lists no cross-reference for it; VarietyVista gives the CONECA number 9-O-V, counterclockwise from K-12 (12 o'clock). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties credits David Moake with submitting the coin. Its obverse markers are a scratch on a NW-SE line beneath the 83 of the date, traces of a clash on the neck just over the collar, a scratch heading SE from the front of the throat, and another heading NW from the upper right of the Y in LIBERTY. On the reverse the die is heavily abraded, with several scratches over the right cornice of the Memorial, a scratch heading ENE from the middle of the E in ONE, and scratches heading NNW off the top of the T in CENT. VarietyVista, also crediting David Moake, follows the die under its marker codes UVC-2536 and DMR-012 through three stages. In Stage B, a middle die state, many east-west scratches surround the head, north-south scratches cross the upper reverse, and east-west scratches run across the lower reverse. VarietyVista has not confirmed Stage A (early die state) or Stage C (late die state).
