1975 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004 / DDO-001

Description

DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-004, is a doubled die obverse on the 1975 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent with a light spread to the north on the upper TY of LIBERTY. Both catalogs give it the CONECA number 1-O-IV+VIII. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties credits Paul Edwards with submitting the coin and records die markers on both sides. On the obverse, a faint scratch heads NNE from the upper right corner of the Y in LIBERTY, and a gouge meets the upper right of the L. On the reverse, a gouge lies right of the middle of the N in UNITED; a scratch climbs from the upper right of the A in STATES up to the rim; a pair of parallel scratches heads SE from the E in ONE, starting at its top; a scratch heads NW from the T in CENT at its upper left; a short upright gouge stands beside the base of that T, on its right; and a further gouge sits between the bottoms of the E and N in CENT. VarietyVista also names Paul Edwards as the reporter. It follows the die under its marker codes UVC-2998 and DMR-002 through three stages. Stage B, with the obverse in a middle die state, is marked by two heavy scratches crossing the top of the E in ONE. VarietyVista has not confirmed Stage A (early die state) or Stage C (late die state).
