Sharing the same WDDO-001 designation as its clad counterpart, this entry represents the 40% silver proof version of the 1974-S Eisenhower Dollar bearing identical Class II hub doubling towards the center on LIBERTY. The same variety appears across compositions because both clad and silver proof coins were struck from dies produced by the same hub — since doubling originates at the hub level, every working die from that hub inherits the doubled impression regardless of planchet composition. San Francisco produced both copper-nickel clad proofs for standard sets and 40% silver proofs (outer layers of 80% silver and 20% copper bonded to a 20.9% silver core) sold separately at a premium. The silver composition gives this version a different weight, edge appearance, and tonal quality, and collectors typically seek both to complete the variety. Gasparro's Eisenhower portrait and lunar eagle reverse appear on 38.1mm polished silver planchets. The Class II centripetal spread on LIBERTY matches the clad version precisely.
