1974-S Variety WMDO-001

Description

Struck in 40% silver at the San Francisco Mint, this 1974-S Proof Silver Eisenhower Dollar displays master die doubling on the obverse designated WMDO-001, sharing its origin with the identically numbered clad proof variety but differing in composition. Very close Class II doubling towards the center is evident on LIBERTY, a feature inherited from the master die used to create working dies for this issue. Since master die doubling transfers to every working die produced from the affected master, the specific die markers will vary across different working dies while the core doubling pattern remains consistent. The 1974-S silver proof Ike was the final year that 40% silver proof Eisenhower Dollars were offered through special blue-packaged sets, the last of a four-year run that began in 1971.
