1972-S Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002

Description

Exhibiting a rare triple spread — where the hub impressed the working die three times with slight misalignment, creating two distinct sets of secondary contours — the 1972-S Silver Proof Eisenhower Dollar DDO-002 shows medium tripled displacement on IN GOD WE TRUST alongside doubling on LIB of LIBERTY. Triple-spread varieties are significantly scarcer than standard doubled dies because they require three separate hubbing impressions to misalign, compounding the already uncommon conditions needed for a single doubling event. Die markers UVC-043 and DMR-004 identify this working die across three stages: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B where both obverse and reverse reach mid die state, and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed).
