Description

This 1972 Eisenhower Dollar presents the WDDR-003 doubled die reverse on the Type 2 reverse hub, which occupies the intermediate position between the three reverse designs used during 1972 production. The Type 2 reverse shows moderate Earth detail, more refined than the plain Type 1 but without the fully rendered continental outlines of the Type 3. Frank Gasparro designed the reverse depicting the Apollo 11 mission insignia with an eagle landing on the Moon and Earth visible in the background. The three reverse hub types resulted from progressive refinements during 1972 die production at the Philadelphia Mint.
