Description

Part of a documented die marriage with WDDR-022 on the reverse, this 1971-S proof Jefferson Nickel WDDO-018 features Class II Distorted Hub Doubling with extremely close constant spread toward the center on IN GOD WE TRUST, the designer's initials, the star, the date, and LIBERTY. The pairing with WDDR-022 means collectors who locate this obverse doubled die automatically possess a reverse doubled die as well, making every specimen a dual-attribution coin. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge appearing as a dot to the left of the center of the L in LIBERTY and a short strong diagonal die gouge extending from under the fold of the front of Jefferson's coat.
