Description

Dual-class doubling combining Class II (Distorted Hub) and Class V (Pivoted Hub) on LIBERTY, the star, the date, and designer's initials FS of this 1971-S Proof Jefferson Nickel. Obverse: die scratch left of Jefferson's ear. The reverse die is itself a DDR listed as 1971-S Pr 5c WDDR-007, creating a coin with genuine hub doubling on both sides. Attributed by John A. Wexler (Wexler Variety ID: 1971-S WDDO-007 Proof). The DDO/DDR marriage makes specimens from this die pair especially prized, as collectors obtain two varieties in a single coin from the San Francisco proof production.
