1971-S Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

The 1971-S Proof Kennedy Half Dollar WDDR-001 displays a moderate Class V clockwise spread pivoting at approximately the 12:00 position on the reverse. The doubling is distributed across several design areas: the stars, HALF DOLLAR, AMERICA, the designer's initials JF, the arrows, and the olive branch all show the characteristic angular shift of a Class V pivot doubling. The variety is cross-referenced as CONECA 9-R-V. The Wexler Variety ID is 1971-S 50¢ Pr WDDR-001. Die markers are documented on both sides. On the obverse, a die gouge is present to the right of the I in LIBERTY. On the reverse, a short die scratch appears to the right of the top of the first T in STATES.
