1971 (D) Eisenhower Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1971-D WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1971-D Eisenhower dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class II spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, the stars and USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), strongest at the top of the reverse. The obverse is also a doubled die, listed by Wexler as 1971-S WDDO-002. The doubled reverse is on the "Four Island" reverse variety. A scratch runs SSW from between STATES's A and T, another runs SSE from the base of PLURIBUS's first U through UNUM's N, and another runs NE from the top right of UNUM's M through the second U of PLURIBUS. From the top left leaf at the olive branch's left end, a scratch heads NE. Thomas Kalantzis and Brian Vaile submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
