1971 (D) Eisenhower Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1971-D WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1971-D Eisenhower dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class I clockwise (CW) spread is visible on USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), E PLURIBUS UNUM, the dots, ONE DOLLAR and the stars, and on the earth, the craters and the olive branch's left end. On the obverse, two nearly parallel scratches run SW from the base of LIBERTY's B, and IN GOD WE TRUST shows close tripling from WWHO-005. The doubled die is on the "Four Island" reverse variety. A short scratch runs east from the lower right of the left upright of UNITED's N, and a light scratch follows the rim above NIT. A SW-to-NE scratch lies midway from star #13 to the eagle's tail feathers, and another SW-to-NE scratch sits above the crater right of the designer's initials. Aaron Miller submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
