Description

Cross-referenced as FS-101 in the Cherrypickers' Guide, the 1970-S proof Kennedy half dollar DDO-005, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse. Wexler writes the number FS-50-1970S-101. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records a strong counterclockwise spread on LIBERTY, the upper hair details, IN GOD WE TRUST and the date. Its obverse markers are a small pitted area between the lower break of the hair and the bottom back of the neck, and a rough die surface left of the lower 1, which Wexler says may be absent on coins from earlier die states. It notes nothing significant on the reverse. Bill Fivaz submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 5-O-I. VarietyVista also credits Bill Fivaz and describes a strong spread on all the outer lettering, the date and the hair at the top of the head. It marks the coin as a proof with reverse design variety RDV-003. Under marker codes UVC-163 and DMR-006, both sides are early in stage A and middle in stage B; stage C, a late die state, is unconfirmed.
