1969-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001
Error
Description
A counterclockwise spread encompasses all letters of USA, HALF DOLLAR, every star in the circle, the rays, and all stars below the clouds on this 1969 Denver Mint Kennedy Half Dollar — a combination variety whose obverse is also attributed as WDDO-001. Cross-referenced as CONECA 10-R-I and attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1969-D 50c WDDR-001. Reverse die markers include a die clash between the lower right leaf and the bottom feathers of the eagle's right wing, a vertical die scratch to the left of the L in HALF, and a vertical die scratch between the two L's of DOLLAR. No significant obverse markers beyond the DDO attribution were noted. The 1969-D belongs to the 40% silver era of Kennedy Half Dollars (1965-1970), struck on planchets containing 40% silver and 60% copper, the last composition change before the switch to copper-nickel clad in 1971. As a DDO/DDR combination variety on a 40% silver half dollar, this die pair rewards examination of both sides and appeals to collectors of both silver content and die varieties.
