1968-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

WDDO-003 on the 1968-D Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in the 40% silver composition used from 1965 through 1970 at the Denver Mint. Cross-referenced as CONECA 3-O-II and catalogued as Wexler Variety ID 1968-D 50¢ WDDO-003. This is a master die variety rather than a single working die variety: die markers on both the obverse and reverse will vary among the different working dies affected, because the doubling originated at the master die level and was transferred to multiple working dies during die production. The doubling is concentrated on specific obverse elements: a very close spread toward the center shows on USA, the stars beneath those letters, and the 9 stars above E PLURIBUS UNUM.
