1967 SMS Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005

Description

1967 WDDR-005 is a doubled die reverse on the 1967 Special Mint Set Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. QUARTER DOLLAR and the branches show a spread toward the center along with light Class VI extra thickness, and both appear slightly on AMERICA and UNITED. Obverse markers: scratches on the rim under the date; a gouge over the OD of GOD; a large gouge under the L of LIBERTY, level with the brow; and a gouge under the Y of LIBERTY. Reverse markers: a long scratch through the eagle's left wing; scratches on the rim all the way around; a gouge to the right of DOLLAR's first L; gouges on the leaf over the R of DOLLAR; a gouge to the right of the final T of STATES; a gouge under the A of STATES; and a gouge on the base of the I in UNITED. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-R-II+VI, and Cherrypickers as FS-25-1967-801. Wexler notes that this variety turns up in 1967 Special Mint Sets.
