Description

1966 WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1966 Special Mint Set Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread shows on the left side of the second T in TRUST. Obverse markers: in the date, two gouges (dots) lie under the first 6 and one sits inside the curve of the second 6. There is a dot above the E in LIBERTY and another left of the top of the I in IN, with more gouges south and southeast of IN's N. A gouge also lies south of Lincoln's eyelid. Reverse markers: a dot between the S and T of STATES; diagonal scratches over OF; left of the left cornice, a gouge with a short scratch joined to it; light horizontal scratches in bays 1 and 2; light, nearly horizontal scratches high in bays 10 and 11; and a gouge on the right edge of the N's left upright in ONE. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references, and its comments note that it comes from a 1966 SMS set.
