1966 SMS Kennedy Half Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-014

Description

1966 WDDO-014 is a doubled die obverse on the 1966 Special Mint Set Kennedy half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class V clockwise (CW) spread, pivoting near 1:00, appears on the date, IN GOD WE and LI of LIBERTY. The coin also shows the doubling from WWHO-001. On the obverse, an NW/SE gouge lies below the right side of TRUST's R, and a short vertical gouge sits left of the 9. On the reverse, the U in UNITED has scratches heading west from it, and a scratch runs SW from the base of the first S in STATES. William Albright submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references and notes that it is found in 1966 Special Mint Sets. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
