1966 SMS Kennedy Half Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-013

Description

1966 WDDO-013 is a doubled die obverse on the 1966 Special Mint Set Kennedy half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class V clockwise (CW) spread, pivoting near 5:00, is seen on the front curl of hair, the upper hair details and LIB of LIBERTY. The coin also carries the doubling from WWHO-002. On the obverse, a small gouge lies SW of the I in LIBERTY and another small gouge is under the Y. On the reverse, a short vertical gouge sits left of the O in OF. William Albright submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references and notes that it is found in 1966 Special Mint Sets. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
