Description

ADC-1c-1965-01 is an atypical die clash on a 1965 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The clash is very strong and shows a 5° rotation that does not appear in the strike, a rotation MDC sees often. Both dies have some abrasion marks (die scratches), but MDC's author does not think they come from an attempt to remove this clash. He finds it surprising that the dies were not damaged further, and given how severe the clash was, expects that both were retired once the operator stopped the press. ONE CENT left marks on the obverse, along with the Memorial's bays, the E of UNITED, parts of the Memorial, and parts of AME in AMERICA; the tops of the Ts in STATES show just below the bust. On the reverse, the bottom line of the bust and a fold of the jacket show, RTY of LIBERTY sits in the field and in bays 1 and 2, and 196 of the date is clashed into the Memorial roof and the E of AMERICA. Charity and Chris Welch found the coin. MDC gives an overlay of the die positions.
