1965 Lincoln Memorial Cent Minor Die Clash

A minor die clash is visible on this 1965 Lincoln Memorial cent. A die clash occurs when the obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet between them, transferring elements of each die's design onto the opposing die. In this case, some of the pillars of the memorial can be seen clashed next to Lincoln and the back of his neck in the memorial building on the reverse. The 1965 Lincoln Memorial cent was the first year without mint marks following the Coinage Act of 1965, which also eliminated silver from dimes and quarters.
