Description

Medium spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, and the designer's initials, along with triple spread on the TY of LIBERTY and additional doubling under the R of LIBERTY, distinguishes this 1964 Denver Mint Kennedy Half Dollar. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-049, DMR-011, four die stages trace the die pair's full working life. Stage A shows a die scratch from nostril to lips at EDS. Stage B brings both obverse and reverse to EMDS. Stage C advances the obverse to LMDS with a die crack through clouds 3 through 5. Stage D reaches LDS with a die break between clouds 4 and 5 on the reverse. The reverse is identified as RDV-002 (Flared G), referring to a characteristic extension on the G in IN GOD WE TRUST on the obverse die paired with this reverse variety. The triple spread on TY of LIBERTY is the strongest diagnostic, as triple impressions are less common than standard doubling and provide unmistakable attribution under moderate magnification. As a first-year Kennedy Half Dollar struck on 90% silver at Denver, this variety appeals to both series collectors and die variety specialists.
