1963 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-017
ErrorDescription
Pivoting from approximately 4:00 in a clockwise rotation, this Wexler-attributed 1963 Proof Roosevelt Dime WDDR-017 shows spread on USA, ONE, E PLURIB of E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the bottom of the olive branch. The 4:00 pivot distinguishes this variety from the sibling WDDO-003 (obverse, pivot at 5:00) and the notch-pattern WDDR-009 — three different doubled die varieties from the same year's proof production. The clockwise rotation produces maximum displacement on elements opposite the pivot, placing USA, ONE, and the partial E PLURIBUS inscription in the zone of strongest spread. The olive branch also shows rotational displacement. No significant die markers have been documented. The higher WDDR number (017 versus 009) indicates later cataloging than WDDR-009 for this date. John R. Sinnock's design was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 90% silver at 2.5 grams. Examine USA, ONE, and E PLURIB under magnification for directional spread consistent with clockwise rotation, then check the olive branch for confirming displacement.
