1963 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-011

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team as "1963 10-cent Pr WDDR-011," this proof Roosevelt Dime documents a very close spread towards the center on USA and ONE DIME — two key reverse inscriptions on John R. Sinnock's design. The centripetal displacement pushed the secondary hub impression inward, producing subtle broadening of the affected letterforms. The very close intensity means the secondary contours sit nearly atop the primary, demanding careful high-magnification study to resolve. No significant obverse die markers have been documented. On the reverse, a small die gouge appearing as a raised dot can be found at the rim above the F in OF, providing an independent working-die diagnostic. No cross-references to other attribution systems are known. As a proof issue, this coin was struck on specially polished planchets with polished dies at the Philadelphia Mint. The 1963 date places this among the final 90% silver proof Roosevelt Dimes, struck at 2.5 grams, before the Coinage Act of 1965 transitioned the denomination to copper-nickel clad composition. Examine USA and ONE DIME under high magnification for the centripetal spread, then verify the die gouge dot at the rim above F in OF.
