1963 Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001 / DDR-004

Description

1963 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1963 proof Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team and by VarietyVista as DDR-004. Both catalogs cite it as FS-804 in the Cherrypickers' Guide (Wexler writes FS-10-1963-804). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a Class V CW spread, pivoting near 4:00, on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the lower parts of the branches. It notes no obverse markers; on the reverse a NW scratch leaves the I of DIME at its top left. John A. Wexler submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 4-R-I. VarietyVista, crediting J. T. Stanton, records a medium spread on UNITED, the left stem and the olive branch, with a light spread showing as notches on E PLURIBUS, ONE DIME and AMERICA. Under its marker codes UVC-404 and DMR-011, stage A (an early die state) and stage C (a late die state) are unconfirmed, and at stage B both sides are in a middle die state.
