1963 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

The 1963 Proof Roosevelt Dime WDDR-001 is a Class V clockwise spread variety with a pivot point at approximately 4 o'clock. This pivoted hub doubling produces spread radiating outward from the fixed point, affecting elements in proportion to their distance from the pivot. The doubling shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the lower parts of the olive and oak branches — all positioned away from the pivot where displacement was greatest. As a proof struck on polished planchets at Philadelphia in 90% silver, the mirror-like surfaces preserve doubled outlines with exceptional clarity. Obverse die markers show none noted, while the reverse carries a die scratch running northwest from the top left of the I in DIME.
