Description

Fifth in the doubled die reverse catalog for the 1962 Roosevelt Dime, this proof issue displays medium spread on UNITED STATES, E PLU of PLURIBUS, the left leaves and stems of the olive branch, and ONE DIME. The spread across both lettering and botanical design elements indicates a displacement that affected a broad zone of the reverse die. Cataloged by VarietyVista under die marker codes UVC-721 and DMR-009, the variety is tracked across three die states: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B with both sides at mid-die-state, and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). Proof Roosevelt Dimes from 1962 were struck at the Philadelphia Mint with mirror fields that provide sharp contrast against any design anomaly, making the medium spread on UNITED STATES and ONE DIME more readily detectable than on business strikes. The olive branch leaves and stems on the Roosevelt Dime reverse offer fine detail where even moderate displacement produces visible separation between the original and shifted design elements. Collectors should examine the upper legend and the central denomination under magnification to confirm this doubled die variety.
