Description

Under VarietyVista catalog identifiers UVC-383 and DMR-005, this 1962 Roosevelt silver dime shows a medium extra thickness along the outer edges of UNITED STATES OF and ONE DIME, with lighter extra thickness on AMERICA. The doubling pattern concentrating on the outer edges of the lettering is consistent with a slight lateral shift of the hub during the die-sinking process, where the second impression did not fully overlap the first, leaving a shadow of extra metal along the letter peripheries. Stage A is an early die state that awaits confirmation. Stage B, the primary documented condition, shows both the reverse and obverse at mid-die state, with the doubling fully expressed and no significant die fatigue masking the displaced design elements. Stage C, a late die state, remains unconfirmed. The 1962 Philadelphia Roosevelt dime had a mintage of 72.45 million pieces, produced in 90% silver, the penultimate year before the switch to clad composition in 1965.
