Description

Attributed by John Conway, this 1962 Proof Jefferson Nickel WDDO-045 presents Class II (Distorted Hub) doubling with a constant spread toward the center on IN GOD WE TRUST. The inward-directed displacement produces secondary lettering displaced toward the coin's center — a hallmark of Class II distortion where the hub face flexes slightly during the impression process. No significant obverse die markers beyond the doubling have been noted, making the motto doubling the primary diagnostic. Reverse die markers provide supplementary identification: a die dot appears to the upper right of the first O of MONTICELLO, and a second die dot sits to the upper left of the second L of MONTICELLO.
