1962 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

Nice Class II distorted hub doubling presents on IN GOD WE TRUST on this 1962 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, attributed under the Wexler system as WDDO-007. Class II doubling originates from a warped or distorted working hub, meaning the anomaly is embedded in the hub itself and transfers identically to every die produced from that hub. Obverse die markers include a die crack in Jefferson's hair at the top of his head and a slanted die scratch in his hair to the right of his temple. The reverse carries its own set of markers: die scratches appear on the rim above the letters LUR of PLURIBUS, and a die scratch sits near the rim between the F of OF and the first A of AMERICA. The 1962 Jefferson Nickel was produced during one of the final years before the great coin shortage of 1964-1965, which would prompt the elimination of silver from dimes and quarters and the introduction of Special Mint Sets in place of proof sets.
