Description

Cataloged by John A. Wexler (Wexler Variety ID: 1962 WDDO-025), WDDO-025 on the 1962 Jefferson Nickel holds "Best Of" designation among Nickel Doubled Die Varieties. The doubling combines Class II hub-shift and Class V CCW pivot at 4 o'clock. Class II delivers a strong spread toward center on LIBERTY, the date, and the obverse star; Class V produces a tighter CCW spread on IN GOD WE TRUST. Die markers include scratches under the star and between L and I in LIBERTY. The associated reverse is WDDR-066. The 1962 Jefferson Nickel is a copper-nickel Philadelphia Mint issue. The combined Class II and V mechanism produces a layered visual effect that earns WDDO-025 its "Best Of" status within the Jefferson series. A closer counterclockwise spread shows on IN GOD WE TRUST from a pivot at approximately 4 o’clock. Die Markers: Obverse: Long, slanted die scratch under star, numerals 1 and 9 of date; series of slanted die scratches between L and I of LIBERTY; two almost vertical die scratches from lower portion of N of IN; die scratch SW from tip of Jefferson's chin.
