Formerly listed as WDDO-070, this variety was renumbered to WDDO-027 after the original entry at that position was delisted for being too minor — a catalog management decision that illustrates how the Wexler attribution system actively curates its listings to maintain meaningful diagnostic thresholds. Nice Class II Distorted Hub Doubling shows on IN GOD WE TRUST on this 1962 Proof Jefferson Nickel obverse, with the hub distortion concentrating the doubled image on the motto rather than spreading uniformly across all design elements. Obverse die markers include die scratches to the upper left of the L of LIBERTY and two slanted die scratches inside the 6 of the date — both sets of scratches providing confirmatory attribution points that distinguish this specific die from the many other 1962 proof doubled die obverses.
