Description
1961 WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1961 proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center appears on the ends of both branches, the lower leaves, the ERICA of AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR, and slightly on the eagle's tail feathers. On the obverse, a short gouge reaches in from the rim at a point between the T and Y of LIBERTY. On the reverse, inside the second R in QUARTER, at its bottom, there is a short vertical gouge; the I and T in UNITED have a small gouge between their tops; and a nearly horizontal scratch crosses the lower A and R in DOLLAR. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
