1960 Proof Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-018

Description

Involving an unusually broad array of reverse design elements, WDDR-018 on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Proof Small Date presents a spread towards the center on the U of UNITED, ONE CENT, the bottom of the Memorial building, the designer's initials, and slightly on AMERICA. The inclusion of the Memorial's lower architectural structure among the affected elements sets this variety apart from most 1960 DDR entries, which typically confine their doubling to text groups and the designer's initials. The centerward displacement is detectable under moderate magnification across these multiple zones, with the denomination text ONE CENT providing the most readily examined area for initial confirmation. No noteworthy obverse die markers have been recorded. The reverse carries three die gouges serving as the primary attribution diagnostics: a short vertical die gouge on the upper right cornice, a small die gouge between the E and N of CENT, and a die gouge to the right of the center of the T in CENT. These three markers, clustered in and around the denomination area, provide efficient confirmation once a collector has identified the centerward spread.
