1960 Proof Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

Exhibiting notably broad coverage for a proof doubled die, WDDO-008 on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Proof Small Date displays a very nice Class II spread towards the center on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, slightly on the letters of LIBERTY, and the hair at the top of Lincoln's head. The involvement of four distinct design zones — motto, date numerals, legend, and portrait detail — indicates a hub misalignment that influenced a wide swath of the obverse die, and the Class II centerward rotation means each affected element shows its secondary impression displaced slightly inward from the primary. The characterization as "very nice" in the attribution notes signals that this doubling is more visually accessible than many close-spread varieties, rewarding collectors with a satisfying confirmation once the affected areas are examined under magnification.
