Distorted Hub doubling arises when the hub develops a subtle deformation during its working life — the resulting impression on the die carries a slightly warped version of the design that produces characteristically tight displacement, where the doubled image sits almost directly atop the primary rather than showing wider rotational separation. Three slanted die scratches below the F of FIVE and two additional slanted die scratches below VE of FIVE provide the primary reverse die markers, offering confirmation points independent of the close-spread doubling. No significant obverse die markers have been noted. The 1960 Jefferson Nickel was struck at Philadelphia in standard copper-nickel composition.
